Sally Poon has been a registered dietitian since 2008, with extensive experience in clinical nutrition and dietetic therapy. She currently provides evidence-based nutritional assessment and intervention services at the Paediatric Orthopaedics and Scoliosis Clinic (POS Clinic). She primarily supports children, adolescents, and adults with orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions, integrating nutrition management into comprehensive care plans to support disease management, post-operative recovery, functional improvement, and long-term health outcomes.
Sally places strong emphasis on systematic clinical assessment, taking into account each patient’s medical background, nutritional status, body composition (including fat and muscle ratio), dietary patterns, lifestyle, and family support. Based on this holistic evaluation, she develops individualized nutrition intervention plans. Her scope of services includes paediatric nutrition, support for children with developmental needs, optimization of bone and muscle health, and nutritional rehabilitation following injury or surgery—all aligned with overall clinical objectives.
In clinical practice, Sally focuses on the practicality, adherence, and long-term effectiveness of nutritional interventions. She advocates for balanced diets and the use of natural foods, helping patients and their families establish sustainable lifestyle habits. She also places great importance on patient education and family involvement to ensure that nutritional recommendations can be effectively integrated into daily life and medical care.
At POS Clinic, Sally works closely with orthopaedic specialists, physiotherapists, and speech therapists within a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care. This collaborative model ensures that nutrition management is appropriately aligned with diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation plans, enhancing overall quality of care.
Beyond clinical practice, Sally is actively involved in professional development, research, and community health initiatives. She is currently the Chairperson of the Hong Kong Practising Dietitians Union, a committee member of the Probiotic and Prebiotic Research in Human Health at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, a Board Advisor of the Love 21 Foundation, and an Honorary Advisor of the Cancerinformation.com.hk Charity Foundation. Since 2021, she has led a community-based nutrition and exercise programme at the Love 21 Foundation, providing nutritional consultation and support to individuals with Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, or other intellectual disabilities, promoting inclusive and community-level health initiatives.
Sally has been featured in both local and international media, sharing insights on nutrition and health management. She also writes a nutrition column for Hong Kong Tatler. Since 2014, she has served as a nutrition consultant for the Miss Hong Kong and Mister Hong Kong pageants and has contributed to various professional sharing sessions in medical and public health settings. She is also an award-winning author, with her book 《吃出好膚質.營養師教你從飲食養好皮膚的秘密》 receiving the Hong Kong Golden Book Award.
